Patina is a Celtic inspired violin, whistle, flute, bass, bodhrán, banjo, accordion and guitar band that plays mixed Celtic, folk and original music. Patina started in early 2016 as a trio with Mike Watson, Kara Mae Prosen & Sue Lee Ringwelski coming together to play for a wedding. It was so much fun they decided to keep playing together. Since the beginning of Patina they have had up to six band members in the past, at one time or another, who have collaborated with and helped to bring the sound to where it is today. With the changes in the band in late 2019, Patina is now a 4 member collaboration of sound springing from the love of many types of music by Kara Mae Prosen, Sue Lee Ringwelski, Connie Dretske and Greg Peterson.
In 2018 Patina recorded it’s first music CD consisting of 5 traditional Celtic and 5 original songs and tunes. The CD ‘Travel Through Time’ is a good example of the Celtic sound that Patina loves to play and is well known for. It is bright and lively with some beautiful ballads intermixed that makes it a joy to listen to time and time again. The CD joins some very old traditional songs and tunes with some of the newest of Patina’s originals. Their compilation of music on this CD truly takes the listener on a journey through time.
Patina plays out around the Rochester/Winona/La Crosse area at many different venues; at the Irish fests, restaurants, wineries, pubs, hotels and of course for weddings, parties and anniversaries! They LOVE to bring their lively music to anyone who enjoys the fun sounds of Celtic, folk, originals and easy listening with some covers thrown in for a change of pace.
Patina is a fun band to listen to and watch perform. They all enjoy playing their music so much that you can catch the delight and the happiness that brings them together. Kara Mae is an award winning fiddler who plays the violin & sings. Connie plays the upright bass, U-bass, flute, Celtic whistles & sings. Sue Lee plays the guitar, banjo & sings. Greg plays the bodhrán, Irish flute, accordion, guitar and Celtic whistles to round out the band. Together they play a nice mix of Celtic based music that will work in nearly all venues.
